Social Justice

Holding hands round worldLOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU

(John 13:34)

We believe that part of our mission as Christians is to love our neighbour as ourselves and to care for the world which God has given us.  We try to show this love and care through:

- learning about situations of need locally, nationally and internationally;
- arranging meetings for church members and the wider community;
- involving ourselves in environmental issues; and
- practical action & fund raising.

The work undertaken by our One World Group which was taken over by the our Social Justice Team in 2015, is now being overseen by the Local & Global Team which was formed in September 2019.

We have:

  • Organised a meeting jointly with Amnesty International and St John's Church to hear about the situation in Belarus and learn what we can do to support political prisoners there.
  • Held a family film afternoons to raise funds for BBC Children in Need.
  • Organised toilet twinning to raise awareness of the desperate need for hygiene and health education in Cambodia.
  • Collected tinned and dried goods and toiletries for the St Vincent's Centre in east Leeds which supports individuals and families in situations of great need.
  • Achieved an Eco-congregation award in recognition of our work to tackle environmental issues.
  • Participated in the organisation by our local Churches Together of a question time meeting with the candidates in the 2010 General Election and the 2015 European Union Referendum.
  • Attended the Menston Neighbourhood Forum to hear an update on local recycling initiatives.

  • Supported Wharfedale Refugee Response and Bradford Action for Refugees.
